In regard to the S3 and Intel handing over CRUS money, why would Intel since they don't currently nor have they ever manufactured graphics chips (as I understand it) and CRUS main business is graphic chips?

You may be right about S3. The last time I checked, Cirrus had about 190 patents assigned to them and S3 had only 5.
