"We all know that this space is as much about software, as it is hardware," she said.
Great articles; thanks for sharing. Above is the key quote (emphasis is mine). A smart move by both Honeywell and Apple to help keep pace with Nest, and Ringly is interesting as well. There will be a flood of new hardware forms to hit the market, but it ultimately comes down to the software (mainly apps) that integrate it with the user's data and therefore life. It's all about the software being able to learn your vital stats, be that your health metrics, your daily location patterns, or your preferred settings for and during different activities, and use them to make your life easier. It's already taking place within really simple apps that do nothing more than customize how your phone behaves, for example, with Motorola Assist (I use this one to its fullest and am blown away by how much time it saves me - a few minutes daily adds up), but the scope and detail of these tweaks to your life are about to greatly expand. HomeKit, CarPlay, Google's OOA, various smartwatches and other wearables and platforms will all involve apps that work in a similar fashion to share and centralize data about you and use it to customize everything to make your life more efficient.
