My point is that there are a number of areas of incompatibility when you deal with CD, CD-R, CD-RW and DVD. If you don't have the right mix of hardware and software they aren't interchangable. This will get better but currently you have to know what you are doing.

I think that this is why the SyQuest and Iomega products are appealing for many data interchange uses. You can look at the disk and tell that it will work in the machine.

I agree that it is a case of best device for the purpose. The CD media is great for "publication" and long-term archiving.
