Sankar, re: Fujitsu vs. Quantum product ranges

In my view Quantum has much better market coverage then does Fujitsu. Fujitsu's products range from 1.28 GB to 9 GB. Quantum ranges from 2.1 all the way to 18GB. But that just takes into account raw capacities. When you look further into performance criteria it becomes even more apparent that Quantum offers a broader range of products, which includes the low cost BIGFOOT series of 5 1/4 disk drives. But aside from sheer comparisons of product lines I suspect it would be more meaningful to look at market segments individually in terms of volume, margins attainable, and market share. For example, how do the companies compare in the sweet spot which is just now really shifting to the 2+ GB range? In that segment the compete head on. Or, how do they compare in the hotly contested high end where former conventional wisdom had it that higher margins were available (maybe not so in light of the wars for the last few months)?

By the way...Quantum's web site has an excellent graphic showing how they cover the market at quantum.com.
