cool link.. some very well thought ideas.. i guess eventually we will all get video cans too. and get into the teleconferencing..
it will bring distant shores closer together..
i would think that this site would provide a good base for you to begin.. AS the honcho you must become the expert in it and extrapolate
the needed info on a need to know basis..
and leave the individuals to perform their tasks until such time as it is needed to get together..

Roger, special thanks for this netage excellent link !

In my opinion, this mini-book is a MUST read:
netage.com

I also like VERY much Robert Muller's poem "Decide to Network":
netage.com

For me (with my Latino background) networking with people I like, admire and respect is the most natural way to success. It worked like magic during all my 20 years of working on two continents ...

High touch is a strong megatrend identified by futurist John Naisbitt.
(High touch recasts the terms of a company's interaction with its customers. The acceleration of technological progress has created an urgent need for a counterballast - for "high touch" experiences. High touch is about getting back to a human scale. For example, Barnes & Noble and FedEx are both using with success forms of high touch.)

I envision Babb Enterprises using both (virtual teams and high touch enthusiast associates) as a great competitive advantage.
What do YOU think ?

Best Regards,

Roger: I just returned from vacation and read the netage stuff. Very interesting. There are plenty of situational issues that arise in distributed companies, and the netage information touches on many of them.

Not much has been posted since I left last Wednesday. Have you guys started communicating in some other fashion?

Roger/All:

Bob & All, please review netage.com
and see if the concepts there will be of any help to us, post your thoughts.

In reviewing the material on virtual teams a few things came to mind.

1. A few years ago, as part of a start up Internet company, do to a number of things, lack of money for space, and travel time for a lot of people, we started operating as Virtual teams.

One thing we learned early on was the need to have a very brief coffee club talk via e-mail the very first thing in the a.m. Where, what we would be doing that day. Very brief but it did have a very positive "social" impact.

2. I think that Roger's Short Thread is a little like a virtual team. Several hi-profile "leaders," lots of contributors, Lots of shared knowledge, etc.

3. The mini book is must reading. Lots of good ideas. netage.com

Thanks to 1stSunRay

4. Two things on virtual teams that did not come through in the mini book was that teams only exist until the job is complete. Well sometimes jobs are never complete but I think you know what I mean. The second is that people often become member's of multiple teams. That may have been in there however, I may have missed it.

The web based "getting started" (I think it is chapter 8) is really quite good in forcing virtual team members through a getting started process. Very useful.
