AMD starting to use C4 bump technology for its 0.25 um process:

Thanks for pointing that out, but the flip side is what you should consider as well --- learning curve. It would take AMD several quarters to master the art of manufacturing C4 bumps at ungodly high quantity, especially with 0.25 um deal. I expect the yield problems would haunt AMD for sometime to come, just like K5 and K6. AMD would eventually perfect Kn-1 but not Kn (the newest generation of processors, n = 6 now).
