I personally don't care who wins in the Sunni/Shiite split--which is more which this is about the National borders. Just so the last man standing has lots of assets and big juicy targets which they will want to keep and not have destroyed. The best thing from our stand point of view would be some kind of balance of terror so to speak between Iran, the Bagdad government, and the ISIS.

I think it important to preserve the functioning state to be of the forming Kurdish nation and our ernstwhile friends the Saudi's.

I do have worries abut what is going to happen in Lebanon eventually. Whatever it is, I doubt Israel will stand for any take over of that country by a group totally hostile to its interests--so I think there's the danger point that could lead to our involvement in some conflict there. Not sure what, if anything, we can do to head this off right now--the moderate factions in Lebanon not being strong enough to exert any influence right now.

90% of Muslims are Sunni

The ISIS guys are Sunni

Iraq govt is Shia

Saddam was Shia

Assad is Shia

Iran is Shia

Shia dictators and/or US backed Shia leaders have brutalized the Sunni as long as they could because the Sunni brutalized them for centuries before they got control..except for Iran, which has always been a Shia tradition area

Backing a Shia regime is a losing numbers game in the long run (90% of Muslims, everywhere are Sunni)

The Republican lunatics can't do arithmetic...(see various election polls, war estimates, ocean rise etc.)

The best thing we can do is what Obama is doing, again..

Encouraging a dialogue cause wars are not going to dent this historic, internecine brouhaha

They shouldn't have killed the competing guys who wanted to Muhammads successor, and we can't fix history even if we could afford to

We'll go broke trying...see Republican lunatics vs arithmetic

After Maureen Dowd’s pot disaster, Bill Maher offers ‘New Rules’ for marijuana beginners

On Friday night’s episode of “Real Time,” Bill Maher offered some advice to viewers and to the state of Colorado about how to use marijuana safely and effectively, which we need to do, he said, because “after all, we’re pretending it’s medicine, aren’t we?”

“Now that the people of Colorado have legalized pot for everybody,” said Maher, “and not just long time sufferers of…well, whatever it is that I have, they must realize that they are the Jackie Robinson of marijuana legislation.”

“You guys have to get this right,” he said to the people of Colorado, “or else you’ll ruin it for everybody, so embrace it. Be the Jackie Robinson of pot.”

Robinson was the first black player in U.S. Major League Baseball and a pioneer in the civil rights movement.

“I bring this up,” he said, because of the Maureen Dowd’s recent New York Times column in which she ate too much marijuana-laced candy and, in Maher’s words, “had a bad pot trip in a Colorado hotel room.”

“I’m hurt,” he said, that Dowd didn’t ask him to be the sherpa on her first pot expedition.

“It’s like being personal friends with Hercules and not asking him to help you move,” he quipped. “I have spilled more pot than most of you have smoked!”

He offered some words of advice to Colorado and the rest of the pot-smoking world.

“Don’t mix pot and alcohol,” he said. “Certain things don’t go together, it’s like funny porn. It actually makes both awful.”

More importantly, he said, “if you’ve never had pot before, don’t eat it the first time.” The high from edibles is much more intense than from smoking or vaporizing marijuana. Eating it on the first try “would be like losing your virginity to Ron Jeremy.”

Maher doesn’t eat pot at all, he said, because it makes him “paranoid and delusional.” And nothing ruins a party more than that.

“Just ask the Republicans,” he said.

Finally, he made a plea to marijuana vendors to stop making marijuana edibles that look like children’s candy.

“That’s not what stoners would do,” he said. “That’s what RJ Reynolds would do.”

“But most of all, remember,” he said, “you don’t need drugs to have a good time, but why take chances?”
