[Telecom Finland] Jim -- Moneypenny's been globe-hopping again. This time reporting in from Finland: News:tele.fi <<< December 11, 1997 TELECOM FINLAND LTD RENEWS ITS FIXED NETWORK Customers provided with uniform service level, diminishing operating costs Telecom Finland Ltd (Tele) will renew its fixed network by the end of the year 2000. Nokia Telecommunications won the bidding competition and will provide the new network. The new network also comprises of broadband connection capabilities (ADSL ), which enables the provision of advanced multimedia services via telephone lines. The renewed network increases Telecom Finland's competitive advantage by improving network performance, which is especially important in the developing data transmission market. Furthermore, operating costs will decrease more than 20% and the network management system will be improved as compared to the present solution. The majority of the network will be renewed already before the year 2000. The network renovation will not apply to Tele's intelligent network, where all services will continue to function without interruptions. The network solution is based on the most advanced switching and access technology (V5.2) which enables open interfaces between exchanges and concentrators.
