How anyone who is on a lower salary could afford a place to live is beyond me.

Most of SF has become a guilded cage. But there are parts of the city that are still relatively affordable.........for an example, Hunter's Point. The average listing price and median are considerably below the rest of the city. And when that doesn't work, people will commute from Oakland or Daly City, neither of which are that far outside the city. I lived for a year in SF in the early 90s and everyone has continually predicted its demise but somehow it manages to keep going.
