To All,
Here is a good news for AMD.

AMD'S PCnet-Mobile; First Wireless LAN MAC
Designed to Comply with IEEE 802.11 Standard Offers
Greater Mobility & Functionality

Business Wire - December 15, 1997 08:29
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 1997--AMD today announced
its PCnet(TM)-Mobile wireless LAN media-access-controller (MAC), featuring significant enhancements to its IEEE 802.11 protocol firmware and device driver software. The advanced design now supports Access Points (AP), enabling mobile users to be seamlessly connected to the network, as well as support for a broad range of operating and network environments. The device with its protocol firmware and device driver software offers users the first wireless LAN solution designed to comply with the IEEE 802.11 industry standard and to be fully interoperable with all standard-based solutions.
"AMD spearheaded the evolution of wireless LAN technology with its flagship PCnet-Mobile product and was a key player in the creation and adoption of the IEEE 802.11 standard," said Laila Razouk, vice president of AMD's network products division.
"As the demand for wireless LAN technology continues to grow, we believe that the flexibility it offers, combined with its ability to serve a broad range of market applications, will result in wireless
LANs becoming a mainstream technology. Through its enhanced design and interoperability, we believe that our latest offering will contribute to the proliferation of wireless LANs by lowering the overall cost of the technology."
The PCnet-Mobile protocol firmware and device driver software are provided royalty-free with the purchase of the PCnet-Mobile device. Support for Access Points provides users with a seamless, real-time connection to the network, without plugging in. Users can access email, the corporate Intranet and share data, while moving around the building or campus. In today's information-driven society, the ability to access or send data while on the go, can substantially increase productivity and lower costs. In addition, developments to the PCnet-Mobile software extends the availability of wireless LAN technology to a greater number of users through its support for the latest industry operating systems such as Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows for Workgroups/DOS. Built-in interfaces support ISA and PCMCIA buses. AMD teamed up with InTalk, Inc. of Melbourne, Fla. to provide a complete system-level wireless LAN solution. InTalk provides the Access Points, which serve as the bridge between the wired network (Ethernet) and the wireless media."Our joint efforts have resulted in substantially lower barriers to entry into the wireless LAN market,"
said Jonathan Edney, president of InTalk. "Together, AMD and InTalk provide OEMs with the tools necessary to enter the wireless LAN market quickly, while leaving room for them to add value and differentiate." Price, Availability. The IEEE 802.11 protocol firmware binaries are provided free of charge with the purchase of AMD's PCnet-Mobile MAC (Am79C930). In addition, royalty-free device driver software is
available from AMD for immediate delivery as follows:

-- NDIS 2 source code: $9,000
-- NDIS 3 source code: $9,000
-- NDIS 2 and NDIS 3 object codes: $9,000
-- The PCnet-Mobile device is priced at $21 in quantities of
10,000.

About PCnet-Mobile

The PCnet-Mobile device is a highly-integrated single-chip media access controller (MAC) designed to support Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and Infra-red (Ir) physical layers. An integrated memory interface supports the MAC 802.11 protocol, PCMCIA and ISA Plug and Play configuration parameters. The device supports 3 Volt and 5 Volt power supplies and has a low-power mode to conserve battery life in
portables.
The PCnet-Mobile device is the optimum solution for a vast number of horizontal and vertical applications. Horizontal market applications require mobility of laptop computers, PDAs and other hand-held computing terminals within the building. Mobility is achieved by extending the existing wired LAN through the deployment of one or more Access Points throughout the building.
Wireless LAN technology is also a cost-effective alternative for the small office/business office (SOBO) or in buildings where the cost of re-wiring is prohibitive. Vertical market applications include healthcare, warehouse and retail management industries. Cautionary Statement Except for historical information contained herein, the statements in this news release with respect to PCnet products are forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties, including the timely development and market acceptance of new products, the impact of competitive products and pricing, the timely development of wafer fabrication process technologies, the effect of changing economic conditions, and such risks and uncertainties detailed from time-to-time in the company's SEC reports.
