I wasn't born to atheist parents. I was adopted by them. (and I am not an atheist- there's too much belief in that for me)

I think the country would be better off without religion, because religion often enables people do to bad things, and then feel forgiven. Highest rates of divorce? Not agnostic and atheists. Worst criminals? Not agnostics and atheists. Many people believe being responsible for your own actions is a good thing. Many people on the right mouth those words, but when it comes to actually living them- nope. They think they're "forgiven"- because of prayer, or accepting Jesus as their savior. I say- everything that you do is a chain you forge in life, and there is no getting rid of those chains. You can stop forging them, but there is no forgiveness, and you will never be exonerated. If you drink and drive, and kill someone- you are a murderer, and you will always be one, and no one, and nothing, should ever forgive you for that. Responsibility. Not just for pussies who want to apply it to poor folks on welfare. It's for everyone. If you look at less religious Western countries, they have far lower crime rates, and better social welfare systems- and freaking socialized medicine. That looks like the kind of country I'd rather live in. If I were better at languages, I'd be out of here. Might move anyway. Do I wish we weren't the country we are- with our weird religious baggage? Abso- fucking-lutely (that's tmesis, by the way)
