I'm sure they had malice. And no doubt they giggled about the profiteering. But I also think they had the hubris to believe they could change the ME- or at least a good portion of them did. There's always a cynic or two in with the flocks of faithful- whether in St Peters or in the Shrub's white house- but in the main, I think they were a lot like the rubes on SI- wishfully, gleefully thinking they'd get to bring democracy to the ME and show everyone how it's done- until they screwed the pooch, and then had to try to start figuring out how to blame the shitstorm they caused on someone else.

Ron you are so right on.. ... I was so upset about that war that I had at the time a folder in which I put all the articles I could find so as to prove to myself that I was right about what it would do in terms of hurting us in the long run...... Just like a hornets nest......

It was the same in Viet Nam. One cannot change the religious beliefs of another and we cannot change the hate that Militants have for us. We just keep making everything worse... The Neocons along with Bush should be over there fighting. Their words and deeds only made a disaster for us.

The results are now evident.

One side effect of all this may be to bring back to public attention the Iraq debacle. Might help Democrats
this fall. Knock on wood :)

Best knock really hard, friend. Because Obama has been running the show for the last five to six years, I fear the narrative that excuses/hides Bush and the neocons is much more likely to stick.

I have little doubt they knew Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 and then managed the public narrative in that direction as much as they could.
