t4texas, thanks for sharing that, I wasn't aware that you could get BDI on stockcharts. I set up a quick little perf chart comparing the performance of the BDI to the S&P 100 ($OEX) over time, and the correlation is minimal at best, see stockcharts.com . You can play with the timeframe of the chart by expanding the bar at the bottom with your mouse.

When I go back to '08 or so, I see that there may have been a very loose correlation between the 2 at one point, but from mid '10 onward they have actually been slightly negatively correlated.

So it doesn't seem that in recent years the BDI has given us very helpful info about the future direction of the stock market overall, but obviously it would be helpful if you were just looking at the stocks of the dry bulk shipping companies.

public service baltic dry index chart update. looks like the last time i posted this weekly chart of the bdi was in the middle of june. time flies. law of small numbers is making these percentage gains large.
