Or there can be an actual Satan as described by Christ in the Bible, and Berkowitz became so hate filled he tapped into a force of evil in the Universe. Oddly, though, I'm very inclined to share your thinking and always have been. It's almost visceral. God as a benevolent force in the universe is completely real to me yet my mind rejects thinking of Satan as real. I decided once that that is because it would be, imo, so patently unfair. Unfair that an evil force could just invade people's minds unaware. <<you are what you eat, so to speak>> Definitely. There's also a scripture that starts out "as a man thinketh, so he becomes...."

If you talk to any psychologists about how crazy people are it will blow your mind. People who think they are being controlled by aliens or have worms in their brain are not all that rare.

And they learn if they become a Republican, no one will even notice how nuts they are.

IIRC Berkowitz claimed that "a demon made him do it", he said even in childhood he felt an evil spirit haunting him, or something like that... I don't believe in evil external forces like that... no doubt he was controlled by some demon to just randomly shoot people in the head, but the demons came from somewhere in his mind IMO, he created the demons... if you tell yourself something strongly enough and believe it then you can make it so, the mind is a powerful thing... so now he tells himself that he is a man of god and because he thinks and practices much more positives thoughts then it changes the mind... you are what you eat, so to speak
