Hey, these are good ones.... I hope you and others can answer my dumb questions on investing.....

No, we just lic the 186 core from Intel AS IS. We then have external code which makes it do all the IS-95 call processing. No changes. the application specific part is like suppose that you wanted your 186 to have another com port, then we would add circuits to make another com port and this would be custom. Adding this funtion would take only small fractions of the cost that buying a whole other part would cost and the power and size is 1000's of times smaller this way. In the case of the MSM2300, every digital function in the phone is contained in a single ASIC (and has been since 1993..) and only needs some ROM and RAM to work.

Yes, a ton on the radio functions are either done in the digital ASIc (MSM2300) or in the analog ASIC (BBA2). these perform things like waveform modulation and demodulation, filters, frequency oscillators, etc.

A DSP is like a special processor in that it does digital signal processing functions. this usually means that it does multiplies and adds real good and real fast.

The heart of the Q phone is made of these two little guys.

Q designs these down to the artwork and then asks these people to fabricate them. No IPR is transferred and all the FABS do is manufacture them for Q. they use Intel, IBM, LSI, and a bunch of others...

Price....you want an engineer to know pricing?.....(8^)
