<<offtopic>> thanks for your insight rod, and technical nod as well: i feel that much more comfortable with my choice.sony has always impressed me with their forward commitment to consumers. i have groaned my way through lemons from toshiba ( first a satellite, then a tecra) and from micron (transport xke).just when i thought the ibm thinkpad was my only reasonable choice, the october vaio was released, its second incarnation. i am glad to know it commands the respect from others that it does from me. randy
