Out of the gutter? I had owned NOVL for over 9 months previous to the most recent IBM rumor. NOVL is still well in the gutter, and has been there for 3 years.

Style Pts:

I guess that depends on your perspective, and how long you held NOVL.
I used to follow NOVL for a while, and believe me, I know all about
all the pain and suffering on the NOVL thread!

Anyway, I bought in at about 6 1/2 before the IBM buyout rumor.
During that time it was 6 & change and sinking for what seemed like
quite some time. After the IBM buyout rumors died down it was left
at around $9 & change. So, I still say that NOVL leveraged that IBM
rumor to their advantage, just like ASND is doing right now by not
removing all doubt from everyone's mind that they are not for sale.

Sure NOVL is still in the gutter if you bought in above $10, like
so many folks did. However, my point was that management can use
buyout rumors to give their stock a short term boost. From $6+ to
$9+ for NOVL, and $23 to $30 for ASND were both due to this.
Clearly it doesn't solve any of the long term problems, but it can
give the stock a jump start, some of which remains even after the
rumors are proven false.
