Scrapps, I'm sure you file at minimum Scheds. A, C, & D of Form 1040. You're right, $14 or whatever is better than nothing. I mostly just wanted to clarify the 2% thing for those expenses. There are all manner of deduction limitations, reductions, etc. in the tax code. Particularly as your AGI increases to certain levels, things you have been able to deduct before are dramatically reduced or disallowed completely.

When a client of mine's income tax owed is higher than they expect, it's my unpleasant task to explain to them why, for instance, that they can't take the exemption deductions for their children any more - they made too much money that year, and the tax code has special rules for higher income earners, designed simply to siphon off even more money to the government that the citizen earned. I think the rationale is that the govt feels they are more qualified to spend your money than you are - so you may as well hand it over without complaint. -GG-
