The first point I can't really comment on because I don't have enough information.

On your second point. What if Saddam had never gone into Kuwait? Would he be the enemy now or maybe an ally against Iran? (Seems like we could really use some allies against Iran, especially right next door)

On the 3rd point. That rivalry has been going on for centuries. But when we went in there we flipped everything upside down. The Shias were in and the Sunnis were out. Let's say that somebody gets elected in your town and says that YOU and every member of your family are now second class citizens and you can no longer hold your job or get another one. AND, you have NO recourse in the courts or anyplace else. Wouldn't that give you reason to want to rebel against this new rule and maybe even take up arms against it?
That's what Bush did in Iraq.
