Very Informative, thanks. Just remember it cost you money to buy it fully operational.

To set the record straight, I finally tracked down the problem with video-in for the G3/266 and it was not a hardware problem.

Basically all preconfigured G3/266 comes with only 2 MB of SGRAM where as any custom built G3 MT that you buy from AppleStore will come with 6MB of SGRAM. It's mandatory and not an option. I had thought that all MT have 6MB of SGRAM but that was not the case.

Apparently the G3 uses a partition of the SGRAM during video capture so if you have a large monitor with resolution set to 800X600 or higher AND have color depth set to more than millions of color then there would not be enough video memory left for video capture. In previous models of Mac such as 840AV..etc this would trigger a error message indicating the problem. On the G3 there is no such a message leaving the user a bit confused.

So there was no hardware problem as I had originally thought.. Me bad. Me need spankie... Just want to assure everyone here that Apple's quality control for the G3 is pretty good.

Good luck to all tomorrow.

Eric
