Style Pts., last Friday you responded to me: You misunderstand the Shotgun II. It operates on one phone line, employing existing 56K support at the ISP. Using existing telco technology, it doubles the throughput rate of data to 128Kbps. Meanwhile, you can still carry outgoing/incoming phone calls over the SAME single line, while you are on the Net. I wonder if you could point me to a link for the "Shotgun II" specification mentioned in your post. I have not seen any reference to it in the literature. My only understanding of the shotgun or "bonded modems", is substantially what's described in this release from Diamond. Diamond Multimedia Systems has announced a new modem technology that "bonds" two standard telephone phone lines together to double the speed of Internet connections, up to 112Kb/s (using two 56Kb/s modems). Diamond's "Shotgun" technology will debut at this month's Comdex in Las Vegas, Nevada USA with the product available early next year. Shotgun technology modems will retail for about US$200. The modems will require two separate dialup accounts with an Internet Service Provider (ISP), and users will probably be charged for both accounts; however the cost of two standard dialup accounts is usually much less than the cost of a single ISDN or higher bandwidth account. dgl.com If there is a new FCC standard that allows greater than 53kb on one standard line from my home, I am curious to hear about that as well. I apologize if my understanding of Shotgun modems is dated. Just interested in clearing up my confusion - occaisioned by your remarks. Thank you in advance.
