Extremely well argued. The connection between immigration/demographics and SS is particularly interesting.

<<<<< If we don't allow sufficient immigration to keep the work force young and to do the work that most US workers will not do>>>>

I can't tell you how much I hate this statement. So the way we are going to maintain our standard of living is importing labor. That the people here won't work is wrong! They won't work for two reasons; the pay isn't sufficient to incentivize them and the unemployment benefits are so favorable that some don't go to work because they don't have to. .......Why isn't the pay enough? Because of the constant importation of document and undocumented laborers. If you are documented you are here because even the dirt poor pay is better than you can get elsewhere. If you are undocumented the fat cats can pay you just about anything they want because you can't complain or join a union or go on strike.

<<<< There will be plenty of advance warnings from financial markets of future potential problems>>>>

I believe you are wrong. Once the financial markets crumble, the fallout will be swift and irreversible. You really think the rest of the world is going to all of sudden trust us to change our ways after an unrelenting march in one direction? The real world just doesn't operate that way.

Can republicans exasperate the problem? Of course! But they have as much right as democrats do to be wrong. That is how America works. To just say it is all their fault as the financial house falls does NOTHING but create more noise.
