One of the advantages of being able to speak to the trader on the phone is that you can specify the lot you are selling - ie "Sell 500 XYZ versus purchase on 6/6/97" the confirm will then show this and you will have what the IRS requires. I believe that this is all there is to it, if I understand the question. If not, I sure Steve will clarify it.

You simply tellme before the end of the day to that the sale of xyz at abc price goes against the xx/xx/xx stock. I put this on the confirm as a trailer.....it is mainly for documentation purposes so you have something to show the IRS in the event of an audit.
