Hi koan; Re: "What is important is that our government has been taking care of people in great need for almost a hundred years now. And that is how one judges a society! Does it take care of its citizens?";

Part of the problem with liberals is that they ignore the lessons of the past. Koan wrote the above in response to a discussion of the fact that our social security system and government is bankrupt.

No, we do not judge a society on its past. We judge it on its future. As they say in the military, "hope is not a plan". All hope does is get idiots like Obama elected.

Societies are very large machines and it takes a long time for them to breakdown. The misguided policies of liberals are not designed to create long-lived societies. They're intended to fix things *right now*, they do not worry about what kind of changes those fixes will produce down the road. And so the parts of our society where liberal largesse has been the strongest are now the most violent.

I don't think this continues forever. Eventually, due to the demographics changes that have already effected Japan and Europe, the US government will be unable to pay poor people to vote Democratic.
