Epicure, you are just absolutely wrong on this. We get stuck in our religion because we have all been surrounded by God and Christianity as taught to us - even if you do not believe today. .........But in the old Norse ways they did NOT fear their gods. Christians depict the Norse gods as being violent and scary but that was to further their cause. The Norse did not have to be loyal to their god(s) and there was no morality issue with the gods. Well morality as we think of it. Their morality was more along the lines of to be brave, to live well, fight with courage and of course family was important.

They did not fear their gods, They drank with them and honored them and joked with them and you really have to tip religion on its head to understand what their relationship was.

My favorite Norse god is Loki. God of mischief. See, that's what Christianity needs!
