You know, a European thing, like all the Liberals want to be like the Europeans. Free Health Care, Education, Social Safety Nets... All items funded by huge VAT/GST taxes on the electorate. Problem is here, the Liberals want all those nice "Social Services" offered up in the EU, without the taxing regime that goes along with it. At least the taxing of everyone, not just the wealthy and inspired. However, VAT/GST is hardly a European Thing, and if you got on a plane once in a while, or did a little research, (i.e. Low Information again), then you would know that both countries with land boarders to the US have VAT/GST tax schemes. As well as many countries in Central and South America. And let's not forget China, and India, etc. Hardly complicated at all, you/everyone purchases items subject to the VAT/GST, the vendor collects the Tax at the time of the transaction, and submits payment to the Federal Government. Everyone shares in the Tax burden equally, based on consumption. If you SAVE your money instead of spending it, you build WEALTH. Not complicated at all, the States seem to pull it off without a hitch. Unless you think the Federal Government is more inept than the States. Too much paperwork? Are you kidding me? Ever looked at the IRS??? I just got done with a IRS audit of 2011, 2012.. 10 bins of receipts and documents, and 19 days at the IRS office. The Govt.'s bill for my Accountant.. About $9,000. LOL! In the end.. .they owed me about $4,500... Don't see the States drowning in Paperwork from collecting "Sales Tax". PCSTEL
