Maybe you should ask where the existing gas tax funds are spent. If you had a clue where they waste them you would be asking how to better spend them instead of throwing more money at the real problem.

4 yrs ago my home state spent a bunch of money on the interstate system moving granite 10' further off the edge of the roadway.

In the prior 20yrs we had no deaths as a result of the granite being 10' closer, but some bureaucrats in DC thought it would be better instead of putting the money to bridges or roadways.

They also pave the highways here in the northeast more then they need to, putting down a skim coating to make it look good. As a result of the skim coating peels up and requires repaving. Ask any paving contractor they will tell you to put down a thicker coat and this will not happen. But the bidding specs from the highway transportation authority call for this to "save" money.

Also some idiots at the HTA think that paving mixes should be the same around the country which is stupid because we all see a variety of temperature extremes. Another reason the feds are incompetent and these decisions should be made locally.

And you really think that money would go to infrastructure?
