And oh yes, one of the first things Reagan did on entering the WH was remove the Carter installed solar panels and set back alternative energy research and innovation for 30 years.

But he did spend $Bns on that Star Wars boondoggle...

Reagan “raised taxes in seven of his eight years in office

and despite that he was a net tax cutter.

Reagan nearly tripled the federal budget deficit.

His deficits where small compared to Obama's by any measurement. Nominal or real dollars, nominal or real dollars per capita, percentage of GDP or GNP, compared to the growth of the economy etc.

Opposing sanctions is a very libertarian thing to do.

Overall he was hardly a strong libertarian, even in what he tried to do, an certainly he didn't accomplish small government. But by both measures he was more libertarian than most presidents, and more than what the thinkprogress post would make it appear.

As for the conservative non-libertarian points that your link talks about, the amnesty was supposed to be a one time thing, with greater border security reducing the problem going forward. It may have been unrealistic politically and practically, but it wasn't an intentional moved towards less restricted immigration (not that immigration, even illegal immigration is a huge issue for me anyway). The weapons to Iran was a bad idea, but not really very significant in terms of arming Iran. As for OBL, Reagan did not arm him or Al Qaeda. It may (or may not) be true that had some different policy decisions taken place that Jaji might not have happened, but its silly to go from that to asserting that Reagan " played a direct role in Bin Laden’s ascendancy."
