He can call this what he wants, or you can call it what you want, but those are the words of an atheist, for all practical purposes.

I am not a professional atheist either. I know what he means by this and it is not his doubt about a god.

The operative phrase in all you posted is this:

"
"I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one"

A personal god is what we are talking about after all. He felt it was child like. That means he dismissed the entire idea out of hand, like an adult does with the idea of Santa Claus.

<<"I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one.You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from religious indoctrination received in youth."

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."

"I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.
