MOYLAN STAFF WRITER ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Digital Biometrics and Grand Casinos are teaming up to develop and market a device that promises to help casinos better track players' bets -- and casino winnings -- at blackjack and other gaming tables. The Trak21 system also will help casinos dispense free drinks, meals, rooms and other ''comps'' intended to keep their best customers coming back. At the heart of the system is a small camera, nestled in the chip tray and activated by a foot pedal, that takes a digital picture of all bets on a table. Recognition software looks at the images of betting chips and determines their value. The system then ties the bets to players, who identify themselves when they swipe player cards through card readers at each betting position. ............................. Historically, Digital Biometrics has focused on supplying electronic fingerprinting equipment to law enforcement agencies. Digital Biometrics, which has about a 50 percent share of the law enforcement market for fingerprint readers, is aiming to broadened its market. Last year, about 10 percent of its sales came outside of the law enforcement market.
