And I pulled myself up by myself and only took $86 once in food stamps when I had no money. I put myself through six years of college and paid every dime myself. You are wrong about several things below. <<Believe me, I probably grew up poorer than most on this thread. Worked the fields for the farmers when I was 13 from sun up to sun down for a $1.75 and hour. We were the migrant workers, and probably the only reason we got off school in the summer was to work the fields. Never took a dime from the Govt., learned a fantastic work ethic that has led to massive transfers to the Treasury. Pulled myself up from, well, what we considered "middle class" at the time, now considered extreme poverty by today's standards. <<Let's encourage people to SAVE money, it is literally the only way to transition from poverty to wealth.>. koan: this is wrong. A zillion studies have shown the BEST and most effective way to transition form poverty to wealth is through education. <<But, until you can come up with a taxing regime to pay for these programs, then you just pounding the desk.>> koan: The Scandinavian countries do it and so does most of the western civilization. Why not us? <<You attempt to "over tax" the wealthy.. .They leave.. That is just the way it is. You can complain about it, but that won't change it. >> koan: wrong again: look at how high taxes were during the 50's under Eisenhower. They went to 90% and we had prosperity and a vibrant middle class. No homeless; and In fact we never had it better. Public education was almost free to a PHD. You are operating under assumptions that are wrong from a scientific point of view. And this is my area of expertise.
