Now, it is a fact that when it turned difficult support dried up and steadily declined. But that is a product of a fickle American public who thinks you can just start a war and if six weeks in it is harder than you thought, then you just walk away from it. The Left were in a position of being able to easily run from it after the fact. But as Condi Rice has frequently pointed out, the decision is made at the time, not two years later. The liberals like Hillary, Bill, Rockefeller, Feinstein, and others, who supported the war going in ran like hell once it turned tough. The only people who really had the staying power to finish the job were the president and Bob Gates, and it is a damned good thing we had them around. Too bad the successor president was a weak, inexperienced nitwit.
