Are you naturally this much of a dumbass or do you work at it?

Let's start with the basics. We have this thing called 'weather'. It is influenced by a lot of things, but the axial tilt of the Earth is an important one. Because of the axial tilt, combined with the position in the Earth's orbit, the overall weather goes through a generally cold period until it warms up to a peak. Then the average temperature declines again. We have rather arbitrarily divided the year up into 4 seasons. The coldest is one we call 'winter'.

In many parts of the country, winter often means ice and/or snow storms. Driving conditions are often hazardous. As a result, businesses often shutdown. People are also reluctant to shop, go to restaurants, etc. This is what economists call 'economic activity'. Now climate change has caused instabilities in the jet stream. The result of which was the Arctic air mass gave us several visits during the winter. This disrupted economic activity and slowed the economy.

But, a funny thing has happened. Winter is gone. The number of severe ice and/or snow storms were significantly less than during winter. Isn't the universe a magical place!! So, there was less impact on economic activity.

Before quarter 1, the trend was for economic growth. Given the recent jobs reports, there is no reason to suspect that there were any other factors at play than the weather in Q1.
