I am thinking about the abuse hiding behind the club. I know there is a debate within the liberal community about when we do and do not enter the gates of another culture. As mentioned, in our clan, which is solidly liberal, we debate whether natives should be allowed to kill whales. We don't all agree on this one. But my position has always been, if I hear a child crying and feel it needs rescuing, on the other side of that cultural gate I will walk right through and rescue it if I can. I will pay no more attention to that cultural gate than I would the man in the moon; as I know all cultures are contrived, arbitrary and made up, but a child's distress is real!
