tejek, I'm not discounting your experience at all. I'm sure the VAST majority of government workers are top people and doing an excellent job. But, I think you have to admit that those 3 million government workers are a very solid voting block and politicians don't want to rock the boat, especially with a group so likely to vote their own interests (and who wouldn't), so maybe things might have become a bit skewed over time? I'd just like to see a balance that puts the interests of the U.S. FIRST while also being fair to government employees.
