Good point. France is a disaster where people don't have much of a desire to work hard and the government is one giant nanny state. Their economy is terrible. It is the logical outcome of socialism in extremes. Germany has its troubles, primarily stemming from their own ballooning debt and the need for them to support all the EU peripheral countries. But don't cry for them, as they benefitted quite a bit from the EU structure as they were the manufacturer to Europe and the rest of the world. I like German ethics better in that they are more aligned with my own: work hard, be self reliant, try for sound monetary policy, and don't run deficits when you can help it and pay the debt down when you can. Anyway, they are now caught in the vortex of EU and that will be a constant drag on German economics.

BTW, I recently read an article that quoted a Ukrainian journalist who said that Ukraine should borrow and use the US Constitution, because the Americans aren't using it much anymore. He said this in the context of very high praise for the geniuses our Founding Fathers were. I wish more Americans felt the same way. It is still relevant today and could provide a rock to lean on during very stormy weather.
