This was penned by a liberal on another thread and says it so well. <<Education, with critical thinking and reasoning skills, is at the heart of liberalism. Along with the evidence based, self-challenging scientific method. Sorry astrologers, Deepak Chopra, and palm readers. Good fences and a sense of tolerance keep us friends however, as opposed to the rigid thinking faith-based RW ranging from Sharia law jihaddhists to ammo-sexual U.S. "ethnic defenders" and lying preemptive war hawks. Liberalism trusts that with the light of knowledge and freethinking the people collectively will most often get it right. We will promote and propagate life, liberty and pursuit of happiness at a broader level of "us" rather than "me" vs. you; or "might makes right", or my entitled family vs. your POS bloodlines, or dark skin vs. light skin. We are imperfect humans. Liberalism acknowledges its own historic and current imperfections as they become known; and that it is a process of constant improvement aimed toward justice and the other goals referred to in the Declaration of Independence. With sunlight and reasoned thinking plus actions, every generation can improve the life processes impersonally, or can make choices that destroy them going forward. Liberals fight within, but with ideas and access to evidence. Modern conservatism is the same old bullshit enlightened thinkers fought against from the so called Greek Philosophers forward. Probably much earlier. I'm not sure which is worse, corruption by money and power, or suspension of critical thinking required for membership in the extremist fraternity that is the conservative movement today. I do believe that sooner or later, along with destroying natural ecology at the alter of privatized gain, the right wingers turn their private God(s), guns and hate against each other once they have burned the books and chilled the liberals.
