Intel, one of the world's most successful and profitable companies these days, has up to now concentrated on the high end of the market.

Now, however, with personal computers for $1,000 or less looming ever larger in sales -- and low-priced network computers and other information appliances coming ever closer -- it has changed its strategy.

Soon the slogan "Intel Inside" could change to "Intel Inside Everything." This is good news for consumers, but it may be a challenge to Intel's profitability. And in this conference you can discuss the world of Intel with Michael A. Aymar, vice-president and general manager of the Consumer Products Group, online with Andy Reinhardt, BW corrrespondent in San Francisco and principal author of this week's Intel story.

The Consumer Products Group at Intel has exciting targets for Intel chips: such things as consumer desktop PCs, TV-set-top computing devices, and automobile PCs.

Mike Aymar received BS and MS degrees from Stanford in electrical engineering, cum laude, and joined Intel in 1976 after a stint at Hewlett-Packard. He has had extensive experience in micro- and minicomputer systems, as well as system and software engineering, microprocessor marketing, VLSI design automation, development systems, and mobile personal computers.

Andy Reinhardt (AReinhardt) has been a correspondent for BW since May, 1996, responsible for covering the semiconductor and PC peripherals industries. Before that, he was executive editor of PC World, West Coast bureau chief for Byte magazine, and editor-in-chief of the ByteWeek executive newsletter. He holds an AB from Harvard and an MA from Columbia's Graduate School of Journalism.

The moderator of this event will be Jack Dierdorff (JackBW), consulting editor of Business Week Online and former managing editor of the magazine. You are welcome to send him questions in advance of the conference.
