I think I was quite clear about the root of the problem: The welfare state, which funds drug abuse and gang activity in the worst neighborhoods in America. Not sure how I could have been clearer.

With all due respect, my explanation is a lot more "obvious" than yours is. There is no apparent nexus between these dreadful living conditions and slavery. Yet, there IS an apparent nexus between living conditions and the welfare state, which enables the behavior.

When you see an unemployed gang member riding around in a Mercedes, you don't have to think too hard about where his money is coming from. Quite frankly, there is no other source.

Here's what you may not understand. Crack addiction isn't paid for by legitimate work. There are two ways you get money for a crack addiction.

a) Criminal Activity
b) Government checks

Because demand for crack (and opiates, to be sure) is higher than either one can supply, it is likely both (a) and (b) above are involved in most cases.

Notably absent is working. Because few people can be a crackhead and show up for work at 8am every morning ready to greet customers. Also, because a job doesn't provide enough money.

So, you explain to me how slavery 160 years ago has ANYTHING to do with these problems.
