CPQ certainly appears to have its eye on the networking market. There were commercials for CPQ's networking offerings on the Dallas radio broadcast of the Cowboys game today.

3Com's AccessBuilder 4000 shows that a solid dial-up remote-access server is still your best bet when local calling patterns prevail. The VPN solutions we looked at either had rough edges and employed an array of complex, nonstandard technologies or were just too costly for local remote access. Although it was assisted by our local dial-up assumptions in the cost analysis, 3Com's top scores in every other category could not be matched by its less-mature VPN competitors.
