I think it was closed between 25K and 32K. I asked (on Sioux's?) what would happen if you were at 24K. Well, this was at 33. US planes avoid the area.

You know what. It doesn't matter at this point. 295 people have lost their lives no matter who was responsible or if someone screwed up. What's interesting is that someone is saying that the Ukraine airspace has been closed for some time. So why were the airlines flying planes thru it?<

Hey happens to the best of us. Iran Air 655 shot down my US Navy w/ 290 on-board.

They fly planes though it to SAVE $$. Well, probably not anymore, at least for a while.

I think that was a directive from the FAA

..only applies to American flagged carriers

There is no international authority that can order a no fly zone, and Ukraine didn't do it over their airspace
