I think you misunderstood me. Royalties sometimes are tied to future development costs. If the royalties go down so will the amount spent on developing the (application specific) product. Some companies lump these with royalties and some break them out. I dont know how Q treats them.

BTW, FASB rules are pretty liberal about capitalizing R&D expenses. most companies don't capitalize because they want the tax deduction.
