Helmut kohl, Germany and gold.
"Too Early To Know About Euro Fate"

Liberal El Pais editorialized (6/6): "Will the euro be
weaker? It is too early to be sure, although the
project's political base has been weakened. Its principal
ally, Helmut Kohl, lost credibility when he had to postpone
a reevaluation of Germany's gold reserves until 1998....
The economic ministers 15 [EU members] must give a signal
at their meeting Monday reinforcing the project.... The
new minister of economy and works, Dominique Strauss-Kahn,
has assured Germany that it has nothing to fear. But this
is before a bilateral meeting between Jospin and Kohl.
Only they can put to rest doubts about the euro project."
