All this talk from liberals about how Putin really messed up this time assumes the Obama administration or Europe or the world community will crack down on Putin in some meaningful way. Will that happen? For decades, the US President has been the de facto leader of the "free world." That isn't true today .... the US President has formally eschewed leadership calling his way "leading from behind." Most people know that means following, not leading. The danger is Putin (and others) may learn the lesson from this that he can get away with anything when America has removed itself from the world stage. Maybe they already know that and that's why this has happened. Could Putin actually be testing the world's resolve?
