At some point in time "sensible" solutions require tax money to implement. Because of 9/11 and the spin put on it people were willing (enough) to go to war to prevent terrorism and not bother the politicians about it.

However when bus loads of immigrant children show up in their towns and cities the local and state people whose budgets are at stake in this circle the wagons. There's also the fear among white non-hispanics that this process will eventually reduce them to minority status. You live in state helped mightily by oil revenue. Not so for the most of us down in the lower 48 where we have to allocate scarce tax dollars and balance our state budgets. The opposition's question is: Why is this burden our responsibility?"

Should we educate ALL the children of Central America here? If not, then we are only arguing about where the line should be drawn.
