Baloney, the church never did as good as social security and medicare.

And our nation has plenty of money to help those kids.

And of course I am injecting values. What is society without ethical and moral values. That is exactly what government is for and why capitalism will always remain subservient to democracy if a country is run right; and hard times are exactly the right time for the government to come in and help.

FDR work programs. Marshall plan. WWII.

You might want to try injecting a little ethics in to your thinking. How in the world can you talk about civil/political solutions without injecting ethical and moral values. Are you crazy?

That is exactly what is wrong with your thinking, hook, line and sinker.

You don't know that ethics is part and parcel of civil political solutions?

You are injecting religious, ethical, and moral values into what has to be ultimately a civil/political solution unless the religious orders are willing to house, clothe, feed, raise, and educate the immigrant children.

If we were an entirely Christian nation the values you refer to might make this possibility, but we've moved along way from there I would speculate (no figures or percentages at my fingertips). In the 19th century what you suggest might have had a reality to it.
