I have not followed this closely enough, but I think there is a problem with this:

When Hamas sent a barrage of rockets into Israel, simmering hostilities, and back and forth strikes, erupted into war.

Didn't the time frame of this go more like this:

1) 3 teens kidnapped and later found dead
2) Israel blames Hamas and says they will pay dearly for this
3) Israel targeted selected Hamas leaders with strikes
4) Hamas responded with rockets.
5) Then the war started.

Because, they have no hope and no future. The difference is, the world paid attention to this monk, who took no lives but his own. Not that even he caused any change.

I just don't see Hamas making "nice" with a Unity government. To me they end thier effectiveness, and maybe thier existence, if they do that It would be nice if it happens, buy no one should hold thier breath on it IMHO.
