The downturn in economic activity was due to extensive corruption in the newly governing Palestinian Authority, and to Israeli closure policies in response to security incidents in Israel, which disrupted previously established labor and commodity market relationships.

Get rid of PLO/Hamas and you'd see improvement in Gaza, plain and simple

why can't Gaza rule itself without corruption?

israel has succeeded amidst a den of inequity.

>> Like the hospital they shelled. As for persecution, well there are many places in the West Bank where Palestinians cannot go. Keeping others locked up in the Gaza Strip and kept in poverty.

War is nasty business; but the Israelis have done everything humanly possible to avoid civilians casualties. In fact, no war in history has EVER been conducted where these kinds of extensive efforts have been made to warn civilians of strikes before the fact. I don't really know what the facts are about the hospital; it may be a mistake or whatever, but that happens in wars. The Arabs need to quit starting wars, and surely would be better off not starting wars they have no chance of winning. That's the solution.

The Arabs are living in poverty when compared with the Israelis. Ask yourself why that really is. They have chosen the lives they have by attacking the Israelis rather than trying to come to terms with their situation. Hell, Israel has shown a willingness to work with any Arab nation that wants peace.

The Palestinians have received more foreign assistance than just about any state in history over the last 20 years -- more than $350 per capita vs. $70 per capita to all of Europe during the Marshall Plan. So, what happened? Lousy leadership that has chosen graft and terrorism over using the money to improve the plight of their people. Had they chosen to work with Israel, there is no reason the areas held by Arabs couldn't be thriving just as Israel is.

The Arabs in that area are thugs whose interests are not in peace; they want to kill Jews. The complaints over poverty are ridiculous; they've done it to themselves.

Personally, I believe a large part of the problem is the bifurcation of the Arab areas, which prevents them from having any representation with which Israel can deal. I would cut off every nickel of foreign money going to the Arabs in this area. It is similar to our welfare state in the US, where we give all these people money and it ends up being used for nefarious purposes.
