This is an Alcatel solution, but $49.95/month until the end of 1998.

While not part of the Internet World trade show, Ameritech Corp., the Chicago-based Regional Bell Operating Company, last week said that its Ameritech.net Internet access subsidiary has begun providing high-speed Internet access services using DSL (digital subscriber line) technologies.

The DSL offering is available now in Ann Arbor, Mich. Ameritech plans to extend the service soon to the nearby community of Royal Oak, Mich., to be followed shortly by availability throughout the Chicago area.

The service, called Ameritech.net High Speed Internet Service, will cost $59.95 a month for unlimited Internet use, with a one-time $150 installation charge. During a special promotion, Ameritech will waive its $199 charge for the DSL modem and will charge $49.95 a month through the end of next year.

The service operates at speeds of up to 1.5M bps downstream and 128K bps upstream.
