Jyoti:

You made a good call. On Friday, I was thinking about Korean markets and was asking my Korean colleagues why they were not buying Korean stocks, but did not know of the ADRs. Thanks for the information. You entered at a right time; it looks that way now. The Korean market is up a total of 9% on Saturday and Monday (so far). Your picks are up by much greater percentages!! Good choice.

Someone mentioned, though, that the top 30 Korean companies have together made a total of $56 mil in profits last year. I do not know if this is true, but I know from news that $80 bil has gone underground when Korea announced that all bank accounts will henceforth be on real names. Low corporate profitability, increased probability of bankruptcies and a looming high cost of capital were factors for the Korean market to sink to its 11-year low. Like you, I also feel it may have bottomed out.

BTW, if you have the links to the companies (SKM, KEP, PKX, PAP, TLK, IIT) websites, would you please send them to sacharya@uic.edu. Thanks in advance.

Goo luck in your investment.
